The Norman side of Mont-Saint-Michel bay has excellent, often overlooked restaurants that offer authentic regional cuisine at lower prices than intra-muros or Cancale. Avranches, Pontorson and Granville are worth a dedicated detour.

The Standout: Le Marquis de Tombelaine (Champeaux)

Don't miss this. Clifftop gastronomic restaurant 15 km north of the Mont with the most spectacular view on the entire coast: 180° panorama over the bay, the Mont, and the Chausey Islands. Norman gastronomic cuisine (lobster, scallops, pré-salé lamb), €45-110/person. Book well in advance.

Pontorson Highlights

Le Mouton Blanc: the pré-salé lamb specialist of the Norman coast, €22-50. Auberge des Crins Blancs: generous traditional Norman cuisine, excellent house cider, €15-22. Both offer 30-40% better value than intra-muros restaurants for equivalent or superior quality.

Granville and Vivier-sur-Mer

Restaurant de la Mer (Granville): harbour views and Chausey Islands, €30-50 for seafood. Vivier-sur-Mer (15 km from Pontorson): bouchot mussel producers sell directly from the morning's harvest, €14-18 for a full mussel platter — the best freshness-to-price ratio in the region.
