Cancale, 30 km from Mont-Saint-Michel on the Breton side, is France's oyster capital. Between the raw market experience at the criée quay and the gastronomic restaurants, it's a must-visit food destination.

The Criée Market: The Unmissable Experience

Dozens of oyster producer stalls on the port de la Houle quay, open 7am-8pm in high season, selling direct from park to plate. Pacific oysters n°3: €5-8/dozen, flat oysters: €2.50-5 each. Eat standing on the rocks with a Mont view — no restaurant can match this authenticity.

Top Restaurants

La Bisquine: panoramic terrace, spectacular seafood platters for 2 (€80-120), Breton lobster, reserve weeks ahead. L'Armoricaine: creative Breton cuisine, Michelin-level quality, €35-95/person. Le Surcouf: best local value, ultra-fresh fish, €25-60. Crêperie du Vieux Cancale: buckwheat galettes, family atmosphere, €12-18.
